The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE) in New Zealand have put in place new labelling arrangements that require all new products to satisfy Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) requirements before being placed on the market.
These new arrangements apply to product that is first placed on the market after 28 February 2013 by suppliers that were not registered on either the ACMA or MBIE supplier code number database before 1 March 2013.
In Australia, a user-friendly, three-year transitional period will apply to “current suppliers” that were registered on the ACMA supplier code number database before 1 March 2013:
Transitional arrangements in New Zealand permit current suppliers to continue to sell sell devices that were labelled with the A-Tick or C-Tick before 1 March 2013.
All radio communications devices, including Short Range Radio (SRD) devices, mobile telephones, web-pads and Machine to Machine (M2M) devices that contain embedded 2G, 3G and/or 4G cellular modems are subject to RCM approval.
The RCM indicates compliance with the applicable Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Electromagnetic Emissions (EME), Radiocommunications and product safety requirements of Australia and New Zealand.
