EN60950-1:2006+A11:2009+A12:2011 is now the oldest version of the standard which can be used to provide a presumption of conformity with the essential requirements of the Low Voltage Directive (2006/95/EC) and with Article 3.1a of the R&TTE Directive (1999/5/EC).
EN60950-1:2006+A11:2009+A12:2011 is the Harmonised Standard for Information technology equipment safety and specifies requirements intended to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury.
The A12 amendment introduces the requirement for portable sound systems to provide protection against excessive sound pressures levels from headphones and earphones. Hand-held or body-worn portable CD players, MP3 audio players, mobile phones with MP3 type features, PDA’s or similar equipment are all within scope.
Protective measures include the requirement to limit maximum sound pressure levels and to provide warning messages to users.
