EE Launches 4G services in the UK

30 October 2012

EE has deployed 4G networks in London, Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Southampton and Manchester.  Networks are expected to go live in Belfast, Derby, Hull, Newcastle and Nottingham by the end of the year.

EE has access to 2G, GSM 1800 spectrum in E-UTRA band number III (3) and to 3G, UMTS 2100 spectrum in E-UTRA band number I (1).  EE has re-farmed some of its 2G, GSM 1800 spectrum to deploy 4G services.

The UK's other mobile network operators plan to deploy 4G services in the 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands, but will not be able to do this until Ofcom concludes the 4G spectrum auction process.
