Growth in global mobile data traffic

According to Cisco's Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast Update, global mobile data traffic increased by a factor of 2.3 during 2011. This is the fourth year in a row that has seen mobile data traffic more than double and Cisco expect traffic levels to double again by the end of 2012.

Whilst only 0.2% of mobile connections during 2011 originated from 4G devices, 4G devices accounted for 6% of mobile data traffic. By 2016, 4G devices are expected to account for 6% of connections, but 36% of total traffic.
